icelandic sheepdog




Does anyone know anybody that breeds Icelandic Sheepdogs in the UK?

I have tried google and all the results take me to foreign breeders in europe and the US which with all the correct procedures would mean not getting the dog until aged 7 months old and huge expense.

I couldn't find any Icelandic Sheepdog breeders in the UK. I would think long and hard about importing a dog from abroad- personally I wouldn't, but that's a decision you will have to make. Even then, I would suggest going with one nearer the UK- there are several breeders in Iceland (obviously), Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark. While this doesn't reduce the time (7 months after rabies vaccination, minimum). It would reduce the cost (slightly) and the transport wouldn't be as traumatic.

Perhaps you could email some of the clubs in other countries (like in the USA). They might know of breeders over here- perhaps they have met someone at a show, etc. Or they could give you advise about the breed- either help you know for sure if an icelandic is the perfect dog for you (enough to go through the very considerable trouble of importing) or they might be able to recommend a similar breed available in the UK.
